On this page we show you photographs [held by the Museum] of officers who trained in either RADAR or WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY at the SIGNAL SCHOOL, which was situated in the DOCKYARD {in the vicinity of RNDQ's now the RM Band Headquarters} [originally an integral part of HMS VERNON the torpedo school] during WORLD WAR 2 before re-locating to Leydene in 1941. Many were photographed by Wright and Logan of 1A Albert Road Southsea Hampshire, and all have a photographers number on the back of the photograph card onto which the print was mounted. Additionally, there are other photographs not filed under the description above, but which recall days gone by in HMS Collingwood. I have also added a small 'Picture Quiz' which relates to an unknown WW2 Establishment ! Some have the names of the men and women written/typed on them; most have the Class or Course Number; some are dated, whilst others have no identifying criteria. This little file is hardly relevant here, but once written, there wasn't an obvious place on the site to put it so here it is Communication officers training in the 1950s If you think that you know a face [marked or not] and you wish to have a copy of the photograph, then please get in touch with the Curator. He will tell you the cost and the procedure involved. The money received will be used to bolster our frugal funds.
Like so many other things on this site, the
presentation method chosen is that of the Portable Data Format [PDF].
With this type of file you can use the zoom tool to your hearts content to
read names and see faces that would be difficult to read if using a Picture
Format like jpeg for example.
