PHOTOGRAPHS OF YESTERYEAR
showing various Naval Wireless Stations abroad and at home

Simonstown W/T by Godfrey Dykes.

This file primarily deals with the W/T Station at KLAVER CAMP. In the folder containing these photographs, some were marked whilst others weren't. The photographs show a remote radio station literally running down to a bay and harbour. We assume that the unmarked photographs also refer to Klaver Camp c. 1940 in keeping with all other named photographs in the folder.

Believed to be Klaver Camp W/T Station Simonstown South Africa in 1940. A very un-professional looking aerial make me think that the W/T station was of a much earlier time ?

This is Klave Camp W/T Station in 1940 with five builders on site. The building is far from finished !

This is Klaver Camp in 1940. Immediate left foreground - the men's camp quarters. Behind that, the wardroom. Existing station and W/T staff quarters are to the left and between men's quarters and wardroom. Left hand side of new building is the transmit & receive rooms [flat roof position] remained being new staff quarters. Existing wire unclimbable fence is to be extended to enclose:- [a] new station and type 21B transmit masts or [b] new station and aerials shown on drawing No 25736. The decision depends upon Admiralty approval to purchase poles and extra fencing.

This is Klaver Camp W/T Station in 1940. Note rear shutter on left hand window when opened fouls H/F aerial lead-in insulators [I have had this altered {South African talking and not me!}. To the right of the picture it will be seen that ground has been levelled off to building level. This is where main earth will be buried, remained of ground being hard rock. H/F aerial exchange switch drawing No 25459 will be erected where the men are standing.
